Is There a Relationship between Lupus Erythematosus and Vitiligo

The symptoms of vitiligo share similarities with many diseases. Vitiligo is often misdiagnosed as other diseases for treatment. Of course, there are also other diseases that are misdiagnosed as vitiligo for treatment. For example, discoid lupus erythematosus is misdiagnosed as vitiligo for relevant treatment and then it turns out that the treatment is wrong, which influences the treatment of discoid lupus erythematosus.

Systemic lupus erythematosus and discoid lupus erythematosus are two types of lupus erythematosus. Discoid lupus erythematosus, it has typical skin lesions and is easy to diagnose clearly. However, by observing the depigmentation patches carefully after the healing of it may show some atrophy and telangiectasia on the surface of the depigmentation patches. Sometimes the surface of the depigmentation patches may be found with adherent scales and enlarged hair follicular pore and keratotic plug. Vitiligo is a primary hypopigmentation that is not related to these symptoms and it can be distinguished from them .

Although vitiligo is easy to diagnose, the possibility of other diseases should be ruled out before diagnosis, especially when it’s atypical depigmentation patches. After misdiagnosis of vitiligo, the harm brought to patients by improper treatment should not be underestimated .
