Why the Onset of Vitiligo Would Like to Happen in Spring and Summer
Vitiligo is a disease that can occur all year round, but the seasonal change characteristics of vitiligo are obvious, most patients' onset and aggravation of the disease in spring and summer, especially the change of spring and summer period, this period is the best time for travel, many people will choose to go out, and after the return of travel vitiligo occurred in more patients, and most of the new white patches are in the face and other exposed parts, which proves that the occurrence of vitiligo is related to sun exposure.
In daily life, we can often see a lot of vitiligo patients after summer, due to sunlight, their normal skin around the white patch became tanned or have more pigmentation, while the white patch is red, no pigment increase, so the contrast between the white patch and normal skin looks to increase and is often mistaken for the aggravation of the disease, thus causing unnecessary tensions of the patients.
Although vitiligo is more frequent in spring and summer and less frequent in autumn and winter, do not take it not seriously. The most correct approach is: no matter what season and how the color of the white patch changes, you have to adhere to the treatment to make your early recovery, do not give up treatment because the winter looks better. In winter, due to the weakening of light intensity and the short exposure to sunlight, people's skin color will gradually become lighter, and the color difference between the lightened skin and the white patches shrinks or even becomes very inconspicuous, which also makes it easy for people to stop treatment because they mistakenly think that their condition is getting better.
In the spring, when everything is revived, the human body's functions begin to be active, especially in late spring and early summer, this time white patches are more likely to occur, which is directly related to the factors of melanogenesis and the characteristics of the skin. When in spring, the melanocyte is in hyperfunction, the need for nutrition is increased, and vitiligo occurred because the human body's tyrosinase activity is reduced or disappeared, which cannot normally provide the nutrients needed to generate melanin, when melanogenesis accelerated which means more nutrition is need, but that the tyrosinase activity is reduced, nutrition is not provided up, the contradiction between supply and demand intensified, hence caused the rapidly spreading of disease. In addition, the epidermal resistance of some clinical patients is weak and sensitive to sunlight exposure, resulting in a skin stress reaction, locally affecting the survival of melanocytes, which leads to the appearance of white patches. But in the autumn and winter seasons, the weathers turn to cold, and the human metabolism slows down, especially in winter when everything rests, the body's functions are no longer so active, the chemicals needed to generate melanin such as tyrosinase are consumed less, and the epidermal symptoms of vitiligo will be relieved in some degree.
Although the onset of vitiligo has a certain relationship with the seasons, the treatment should not have seasonal restrictions, vitiligo patients should be actively treated all year round.
